Hello fellow Wanderlusters! I know that the “new year” is 10 days behind us, but this is the first post for Harpreet’s Wanderlust for 2017 and so I guess it would be in order for me to say howdy, and wish you all a Happy New Year!
It almost seems tradition of sorts to look back at a year with an ounce of gratitude for all the wonderful adventures that the Universe has brought along. When I sit in solitude and reflect, 2016 has been a fabulous year of travel for this wanderluster – I’ve taken the saying “explore your own backyard” to heart and have had some pretty special adventures in Kenya, my beautiful country, which is indeed so magical. There is still so much more to explore at home, but I have itchy feet and so just couldn’t resist taking it one step further and exploring more of Africa, which made 2016 the “Year of Africa” for Harpreet’s Wanderlust.
Looking back at 2016: 9 countries, over 20 cities, dozens of flights, and the best of all – new friends that lead to a year jam packed with the most incredible adventures. And in all my explorations, it dawned on me that ultimately, that is what travel is all about. Believing in magic, looking at life through rose colored glasses and childlike wonder, and discovering new people and new places. All of this leads to the creation of the most gorgeous memories and these memories make you a Citizen of the World, and make you hum with joy and grin from ear to ear even on the most mundane of days. Indeed, as the saying goes – “the best stories are those found between the pages of a passport.”
If 2016 has taught me one thing about this beautiful continent, it is that Africa gets under your skin. And once that happens, and that safari bug bites, you are happily infected for life. I can’t wait to blog about all the beautiful places I have been exploring in the last couple of weeks. But for now, I am going to share something with you that spoke volumes to me when I saw it on the massage brochure at our beautiful lodge in Zimbabwe, the Victoria Falls River Lodge. We are fortunate to live in the Internet age, but this also means that it is so easy to get caught up in the waves of drama that follow everyday life. Sometimes it becomes all about the statistics, the to-do’s, the followers and unfollowers, especially in this day and age, so much so that we sometimes forget that life is about precious moments, and these moments alone.
These words have become my mantra for 2017. I hope they resonate with you too.
I wish you all an incredible year ahead, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of my journey. Thank you for keeping it Harpreets Wanderlust, and for following my Footsteps Across The Globe. I hope to take you on many more exciting adventures, and wish you plenty of exciting adventures of your own too! Cheers to a fabulous, wanderlusty, dreamy and MAGICAL 2017 all!
Amen!
I know you concur, wink wink! As always, thanks for being my number one wanderlust mate xx
